BKK to Koh Chang is a Bangkok road transfer plus a ferry crossing, so the real decision is not just bus versus taxi. The clean route uses the mainland ferry area near Laem Ngop, usually Ao Thammachat for Ferry Koh Chang, then arrives at Ao Sapporot on the north-east of the island. If your flight lands in the morning, a combined van/ferry ticket can be sensible. If you land after lunch, start thinking like a tired traveler, not an optimist: a private car still has to beat the last boat, and the calmer backup is a night in Bangkok or Trat followed by the first practical morning crossing.

The practical ferry window is 06:30-18:30. If your plane lands late, do not buy a same-day island plan unless the ticket clearly protects the connection.

Taxi is worth considering for families, luggage and control over the road leg. This guide plans 5h30m-8h by private taxi, but the ferry crossing and island-side drop-off still need to be included or handled separately.

Ao Sapporot is not your beach hotel. Most visitors still need west-coast transport toward White Sand, Klong Prao, Kai Bae or Lonely Beach unless the ticket includes hotel drop-off.

Koh Chang to Suvarnabhumi is the Batch 3 route where buffer matters most. You are not just driving to BKK; you are leaving an island, catching a ferry, crossing the mainland and entering Bangkok airport traffic. For afternoon or evening flights, the first practical morning transfer can work. For morning flights, the honest advice is to leave Koh Chang the day before.
